Medical Assistant and Front Desk Supervisor - Midlothian, VA 23114
General and Surgical Dermatology
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years of experience with Clinical Dermatology as an MA
- Minimum two years of work experience in a medical office
Minimum one-year Supervisory experience - Derm Scribing abilities & experience
- EMR : EMA for scribing a plus
Payrange : $23.09/hr - $25.47/hr (based on experience)
Shift : Monday to Friday, 8a - 5p (half-day Friday)
- Coordinates activities of Front Office, supervises staff in all receptionist functions
- Greets patient at check-in, answers questions, and provides assistance as necessary.
- Instructs new patients in completion of medical history and information forms and updates for returning patient’s demographics and insurance information, as needed, checking forms for completion and signature
- Confirms patients' insurance eligibility with patient, copying all pertinent information.
- Enters appropriate data into computer, retrieves data, types correspondence and reports.
- Generates encounter form and superbill.
- Compiles all information for visit, including referral information, and distributes to clinical staff.
- Prepares folders and maintains records of new patients, compiles medical charts, reports, and correspondence.
- Reviews medical records for completeness, assembles records into standard order, and files records in designated areas according to applicable alphabetic and numeric filing system.
- Prepares medical charts, encounter forms, and superbills for next day’s clinics.
- Greets patient at checkout window, answers questions, and provides assistance as necessary.
- Retrieves superbills, verifies demographic and insurance information.
- Enters appropriate data into computer, retrieves data, determines patient’s portion of payment due.
- Collects payments and posts payment to patient’s financial record in computer, generate receipt for patient.
- Schedules return appointments and provides patient with appointment card.
- Balances charges and payments for each physician with superbills and monies.
- Closes credit card machine.
- Submits balanced report, superbills and monies to supervisor to prepare deposit.
- Adjusts errors and resolves complaints.
- Management and organizational skills to support and leader this function
- Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretations
- Interpersonal skills to support customer service, functional, and team mate support needs
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Mathematical and/or analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solving
- Basic knowledge of medical billing coding, including CPT and ICD-9 coding, required.
- Basic knowledge of Medicare rules and regulations, preferred.
- Basic knowledge of medical billing procedures and medical insurance, including credit and collection procedures, required.
- Basic knowledge of medical accounts receivable collection procedures, including knowledge of insurance correspondence, required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises employees in the Front Office.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
MEDICAL ASSISTANT DUTIES:
- The Medical Assistant is to provide assistance to the licensed-medical provider in multiple settings including the clinic and surgical settings.
- Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam and treatment
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
- Show patients to examination rooms, procedure rooms or operative rooms and prepare them for the physician.
- Record patients' medical history, medications, allergies, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records.
- Ensure proper consent forms are obtained prior to preparing a patient for treatment
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician following safety protocol of right dose, right patient, right route, right drug and noting expiration date
- Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, wound care instructions and physicians' instructions to patients.
- Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections and removing sutures.
- Under Provider direction, authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
- Inspects sterile items prior to opening and lay supplies out on sterile field in an organized manner
- Assist physician with surgical procedure while maintaining sterile field
- Assess the patient’s condition throughout the exam, procedure or surgery
- Responsible for cleaning room and medical equipment in between each patient and at the end of the day.
- Correctly disposes of infection waste and biohazard materials
- Change dressings on wounds.
- Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests and/or admission.
- Inventory and assess the need for instruments, supplies and equipment while keeping the room stocked
- Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses.
- Performs accurate documentation of all procedures in a timely manner
- Responds to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol by having knowledge of equipment and supplies and is familiar with their location
- Assist physicians in patient, employee, or visitor medical emergencies and ensure proper documentation per facility’s policy.
Two (2)+ year experience in a medical setting, preferred and with Dermatology
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, required.
- Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications
