Summary

You will serve as a Marine Gas Turbine Controls Technical Specialist in the Propulsion Systems Division (42), of NSWC PHILA DIV.

Duties

  • You will provide the strategy for the design and testing of new gas turbine power and propulsion digital engine/system controls concepts.
  • \n
  • You will conceive, propose, plan, direct, and manage a wide range of testing projects for the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of gas turbine propulsion and power equipment/systems digital engine/system controls.
  • \n
  • You will provide advice, consultation, and review services to all levels of management and technical personnel, to NAVSEA, naval activities, government agencies, and contractors.
  • \n
  • You will provide analytical expertise to resolve critical problems or develop new approaches or methods to enhance the Fleet.
  • \n
  • You will keeps abreast of the state-of-the-art digital engine/system controls through attendance at conferences and meetings and through contacts with other specialists in the field.
  • \n
  • You will conduct and direct independent investigative and/or experimental efforts intended to advance
    state-of-the-art technologies in propulsion and power digital engine/system controls.
  • \n
  • You will conduct or oversee test and evaluation and research and development efforts for gas turbine propulsion/power systems/components digital engine/system controls installed at Land Based Engineering Laboratories and Sites as well as aboard ship.
  • \n
  • You will assign, direct, and review the efforts of other engineers and scientists and of support personnel as required by assigned tasks.
  • \n
  • You will prepare proposals, reports, correspondence, presentations, and documentation on all aspects of gas turbine power/propulsion technology, development, use, and analysis as required by assigned tasks.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a Professional Engineer providing full spectrum life-cycle management and in-service engineering for the design, testing, evaluation, and research and development of naval shipboard gas turbine power and propulsion digital engine/systems controls.

Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
