Harbor House of Central Florida, located in Orlando, FL, is actively seeking a full-time Shelter Services Advocate (various shifts available) to provide advocacy, support, crisis intervention, safety planning, and lethality assessments to survivors of domestic violence residing in our emergency shelter. This entry-level position offers a $16 hourly wage with excellent benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 403(b) retirement plan. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SHELTER SERVICES ADVOCATE
As a Shelter Services Advocate, you will work as part of a team in our residential shelter, providing a safe environment for adults, children, and animals fleeing domestic violence. You will deliver immediate crisis intervention and safety planning for our clients, advocating for victims of domestic violence while providing support and information about available options. Your role is to educate and empower, supporting clients' decision-making without dictating their choices.
You will develop professional relationships with clients, monitor their progress towards goals, facilitate support groups, and ensure their ongoing physical and emotional well-being. Additionally, you will conduct lethality assessments to prevent domestic violence homicides, serious injury, and re-assault, encouraging survivors to utilize support and shelter services.
You will play a crucial role in making a difference in the lives of those experiencing difficult circumstances.
QUALIFICATIONS
Note: You must attend a 3-day training to become CORE certified prior to working with survivors.
