Overview
The Small Business Relationship Manager is tasked with growing the Banks Commercial & Industrial (C&I) loan portfolio in the New York market. This role involves collaborating with Branches and Business Development Officers to handle commercial loan requests ranging from $250,000 to $750,000, while also driving new business opportunities and promoting Bank products through cross-selling.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of lending, including prospecting, evaluating, underwriting, negotiating, and presenting loan applications, including those that are complex or require significant approval authority.
- Guide and educate Branches and Business Development Officers on identifying viable commercial loan prospects and preparing comprehensive loan packages for approval.
- Assess loan viability by evaluating borrowers financial health, operational performance, and repayment capacity using financial statements, collateral details, interviews, and relevant industry and economic data.
- Authorize loans within the Banks established approval framework.
- Develop and uphold lending and operational policies in alignment with the Banks standards.
- Proactively manage client portfolios to optimize returns and maintain high credit quality through ongoing monitoring of assets, client performance, and regular client engagement.
- Identify clients financial product needs and offer tailored banking solutions by cross-selling cash management and other Bank services, maintaining in-depth knowledge of all Bank offerings.
- Stay informed about regulatory changes, legislative updates, and policy developments that impact the Banks operations.
- Foster and maintain relationships with local influencers, including brokers, CPAs, real estate attorneys, and community leaders, to generate referrals and represent the Bank at community and civic events.
- Visit business owners at their properties or locations for meetings, either independently or with Branches and Business Development Officers.
- Conduct on-site inspections of commercial properties and construction sites.
- Analyze technical data, environmental reports, and appraisals to evaluate properties effectively.
- Review existing commercial and building loans to assess cash flow and financial viability.
- Safeguard the Banks assets and portfolio quality by adhering to lending processes, policies, legal and ethical standards, audit requirements, and risk management guidelines.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable Bank policies and procedures.
